Audioslave: Very cool band, I especially like their songs "Like A Stone" and "I Am The Highway." Breaking Benjamin: One of my favorite bands at the moment. I especially enjoy their songs "Breakdown," "So Cold," and "Believe." Chevelle: Cool band, very loud but articulate which is nice. I have all three of their albums, and enjoy all of them. I especially love their songs "Blank Earth," "Get Some," "Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)," and "Family System." Counting Crows: Very cool, they incorporate very non-rock aspects which I love. Dave Matthews Band: Very cool group, I love most of their stuff. Fighting Gravity: A very cool band out of Richmond, I saw them perform live at Taste of DC and it was seriously one of the best concert experiences for me ever. Check 'em out. Tool: Wierd group, but good. I enjoy their song "Schism" The Wallflowers: Very good group, I like a lot of their songs. The White Stripes: These guys are great, I love most of their stuff and they've got a sound that is just awesome.
12 Stones: A Christian hard rock band. They've toured with Creed, and the two bands sound very similar in some ways. Very cool stuff, and very positive which is rare for this type of music. Bebo Norman: Very talented singer, I've heard a few of his songs and loved every one of them. Blindside: Very cool band, loud but with a pretty positive message most of the time. Caedmon's Call: Another cool Christian band. These guys combine a lot of different people with a lot of different influences into a band that can really lay down some cool music. I especially like the songs "Prove Me Wrong," "Thankful," and "You're the Only One" DC Talk: I got interested in this group when I bought their greatest hits album and absolutely fell for some of the songs. Especially cool are the songs "Jesus Freak" and "What If I Stumble," but the whole album is very cool. Delirious?: One of the few British Christian bands that I have had the pleasure of knowing about. I found their song "Gravity" on a compilation cd and have loved their sound ever since. Evanescence: One of my favorite groups right now, they combine loud guitars and screaming lyrics with beautiful melodies and touching emotions that truly speak to the troubles of living in this world of darkness. Jars Of Clay: Great band. Christian rock, and very cool. One of my favorite bands at the moment. Lifehouse: a very cool band, spiritual but also very rockin' and such. I have their albums No Name Face and Stanley Climbfall, and while I like the first one better I think they're both very cool. P.O.D.: A very cool Christian hard rock band combining such different forms as reggae and rap metal. Their albums Satellite and The Fundamental Elements of Southtown are very cool, and many of the songs on them are excellent. Relient K: One of my favorite bands right now. I especially like their songs "More Than Useless" and "I So Hate Consequences." Seven Day Jesus: A very cool Christian rock band, I love their song "Butterfly." Unfortunately they've split up so there's no website, but I would definitely suggest that you try to find their music if you enjoy great Christian music. Seventh Day Slumber: A good loud Christian band, I like their song "Break Me." Skillet: A very good Christian industrial band, perhaps one of the best out there. I love their songs "Best Kept Secret," "Kill Me Heal Me," "Alien Youth," and "Fingernails." Stephen Curtis Chapman: One of the best solo Christian artists out there. He has a lot of very cool songs, especially "See The Glory" and "Bring It On." Switchfoot: An excellent band, I have all four of their albums and love every one of them. Right now I'm especially loving the album Legend of Chin with the songs "Underwater" and "Chem 6a," and also their song "Politicians" from the new album.
Thievery Corporation: One of my favorite bands at the moment, they meld a wonderful combination of different styles and international influences into a great style of their own. Zero 7: Great songs with beautiful vocals. I especially like their song "In the Waiting Line" off the Garden State soundtrack.British Rock Bands:
Coldplay: My favorite British band by far, cool tunes and the wonderful voice of Chris Martin. Feeder: Don't know much of them, but I like their song "Seven Days in the Sun." Gorillaz: A "manufactured" band, made up of members of different bands who take on animated personas as the members of this band. I love their songs "Clint Eastwood," "19/2000," and "Punk," and enjoy most of the other songs on the album. Stereophonics: A great band from Cwmaman, Wales. I really enjoy their songs "Mr. Writer" and "Every Day I Think of Money." Toploader: Love 'em, they're really cool. One of my favorite bands.
Bluegrass:
Alison Krauss and Union Station: One of the best singers of any genre. Alison Krauss has a beautiful voice, and some of the lyrics are excellent. They have a new album out, New Favorite, which is excellent. Mutual Admiration Society: Not technically bluegrass, but it is a collaboration between Nickel Creek and Glen Phillips (formerly of Toad the Wet Sprocket) so I included it here. Very cool music, folksy stuff with a definite bluegrass influence. Nickel Creek: Another great band. I have their self-titled album as well as their new one titled This Side. Both are very good, with This Side being a little bit more "experimental" and eclectic than their debut album.Swing/Rockabilly:
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy: Good West Coast swing band, great sound. Jellyroll: Very cool group, great sound. Fueled by the great voice of Miss Belinda Blair, very cool stuff. Royal Crown Revue: My favorite swing band by far, always fun to listen to. Squirrel Nut Zippers: Great band, love their sound.
Calloway, Holliday, Armstrong, Sinatra, Ellington, Basie...almost too many to countJazz:
Miles Davis has to be a favorite, his album Kind of Blue is one of the best albums I have the pleasure of owning, and the album Jazz at the Plaza is also very good. I like a lot of the old stuff, such as that by Thelonius Monk and others whose names I don't know, plus some of the new stuff such as the music of Wynton Marsalis.Classical:
Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Brahms, and probably every old classical composer ever born.
